Getting Started
Welcome! Screen Region Blockout helps you quickly, easily, and safely block regions of undesirable content such as ads, chatboxes, or anything else that is not related directly to the content of the webpage.
This extension does not remove the content, but rather, masks it, ensuring stability of the target webpage.
Once installed, click the extension icon to open the popup. From there you can:
- Add Region: select and block out parts (regions) of any page
- Clear Regions: remove region blocks on the current page
- Refresh Regions: re‑draw saved region blocks on stale pages
- Screenshot: take screenshots of pages with or without region blocks
- Profiles: manage multiple profiles
- Options: fine‑tune effects, import/export, and licencing

Drawing/Adding Regions
- Click **Add Region** in the popup.
- Your cursor turns into a crosshair—click & drag to draw a rectangle.
- Release to finalize; the block is saved to your active profile.
You can draw up to 9999 regions per page (varies by licence).
Effects & Settings
Blur
A simple looking standard Blur that is the foundation of any type of censoring.
A greater blur radius will provide a stronger looking blur to the region.
Solid
This effect is versatile in that the user can create a coloured tint, right through to a completely solid region of colour over the undesired area.
Grid
This effect will create grid lines over a background.
The grid size, line colour, background colour and opacity can all be modified to suit taste.
Checkerboard
This effect will create an alternating colour pattern.
The square size, colours and opacity can be modified for the desired effect.
True Checkerboard
This effect is a pixel‑perfect variant of the Checkerboard effect.
The pixel size and colours are available for modification.
Carbon
This effect is created by using a repeating‑conic “pixel” effect.
The pixel size is available for modifying the look of the final result.
Dots
This effect is an offset dotted overlay.
The dot size, background colour and dot colour can be modified to suit.
Moiré
This effect consists of intersecting stripes.
The line width, stripe colour and background opacity can be modified to suit.
Each effect offers its own sliders and colour pickers for full customisation.
Screenshots & Watermark
Screenshots and the Watermarking abilities are available only to upgraded users.
As a Standard Licence User,
- Capture the current page plus your masked regions to a PNG.
- Extension Watermark applied automatically.
- Watermark settings are not adjustable.
As an Anonymous Licence User,
- Capture the current page plus your masked regions to a PNG.
- Select and automatically stamp your custom watermark/logo to the image file.
- Tweak opacity & toggle watermark in the Options.
How to capture...
Once the Watermark Settings have been adjusted to suit (Anonymous only), it is then a simple process of clicking on the Screenshot button, selecting a suitable name for the file, and clicking Save.
Profiles
Profile Management is only available on Standard and Anonymous Licence tiers.
Profiles let you switch between different sets of saved regions:
- Default is always present.
- Create new profiles, switch between them, or delete extras.
- Each profile stores its own regions per‑page.
Licencing
We offer three tiers:
- Lite: basic masking, up to 3 regions per page, no screenshots
- Standard: more effects, more regions, screenshots enabled
- Anonymous: unlimited regions, import/export, watermark controls
Click Register/Manage Licence in the popup to activate or view your current licence.

FAQ & Troubleshooting
Q: Why can't I draw more than 3 regions?
A: This is the limit of the 'Lite' licence. Please consider upgrading to access more functionality.
Q: I am unable to create screenshots. What is going on?
A: Your licence is most likely a 'Lite' licence Please upgrade your licence to have this functionality..
Q: I have a watermark on my screenshot. Why?
A: This is part of our Standard licence properties. If you would like the ability to remove the Watermark (or incorporate your own custom watermark), you will need to upgrade to the Anonymous licence.
Q: The licence key I purchased is not working anymore. What has happened?
A: In this situation, we suggest you answer the following for yourself:
1. Did you obtain the key through legitimate channels? If Yes, then, have you tried reloading the extension and trying again?
2. Have you reached your Device Activation Limit for your licence? Standard licences can be activated on a single device, Anonymous licences can activate up to 10 devices.
3. Have you attempted multiple Activate/Deactivate procedures in a very small timeframe? If Yes, you will need to contact us, as your licence has now most likely been flagged for some reason.
4. Is your licence key expired? The licence keys do have an expiry period of approximately 2 years; or until the next Major Version release. Mostly, this will not be an issue, unless you alter your computer time and date.
Q: Why am I getting a message of 'Error adding region'?
A: Errors of this nature generally indicate outdated or stale pages or content. Please try refreshing the page and try again. If the problem persists, please reach out and contact us about it.
Q: Regions disappear when I reload.
A: They’re tied to the “profile” + page URL. Hit **Refresh Regions** or switch profiles.
Q: I can’t draw more regions after upgrade.
A: Make sure you’ve switched to a new profile or re‑loaded the extension after activation.
Q: My custom watermark isn’t applied.
A: Please try to include your watermark again. If this does not work then please get in contact with us.
Q: Some sites don’t work.
A: Dynamic pages (e.g. canvas, embedded content) may not reflect overlays- please report any sites of this nature!
Q: Why am I not getting refunded for my purchase?
A: Due to the nature of the product, we are unable to issue refunds. This is due to many reasons, but most of them do boil down to User Interference.
ONLY in extreme extenuating circumstances will we issue a refund, in part or in full, for digital products.
Q: Why did you call your top licence 'Anonymous'?
A: Although we do not track ANY user interactions with the extension, we chose this name to specifically recognise that even if extension updates become available, we will not email or make contact with Anonymous Licence holders for ANY REASON WHATSOEVER.
